Dear All,
The Nanyang Primary Basketball Coach, Coach Ong, is also coaching the Hwa Chong JC Girls and Boys "A" Division Team. Both of these teams have qualified for the "A" Division Final. The Boys match will be played at 2.30pm followed by the Girls Match. The games should finish by 5pm.
The games will be played at the Jurong East Sports and Recreation Center. (pls click on the name for link to map)
Coach Ong has cordially invited the Nanyang Primary Basketball CCA members to watch the games this Wednesday afternoon and we have accepted his invitation. The matches themselves should be very fast-paced and exciting. It will be a good experience for all Basketball players to watch these exciting games being played by their elder brothers and sisters.
We will be arranging a school bus for all interested NYPS Basketball CCA players.
The bus will return to Nanyang Primary by 530pm. We seek parents' help to arrange transport for your child if you child is attending the matches. You can pick your child up either from Nanyang Primary, King's Road Campus or from the Jurong East Sports and Recreation Center, at 21 Jurong East St 31.
A consent form has been sent out to all Nanyang Primary Basketball CCA Members.
Kindly complete the form and return it to Mr Ng (King's Road Campus) or Mr Cha (Toh Tuck Campus).
You can also download the form from this link below.

You can download the consent forms by clicking the link below
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6efqze3x9nozgin/Letter%20for%20June%20Camp.doc
The details are as follows:-
1) The Basketball Camp will be held at the Toh Tuck Campus located at 5 Toh Tuck Road, Singapore 596679.
This is due to the extensive renovation works being carried out at the King’s Road Campus. We will be able to use the large indoor court to train, rain or shine. The camp will start at 0800h on Monday, June 3rd. It will end at 1200h on Wednesday, June 5th. We seek your assistance to provide transportation to and from school for your child.
2) The objectives of this basketball camp are:-
a. Foster team spirit and friendship within the CCA
b. Improve on Basketball Skills
c. Inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and the Olympic values
d. Create and cultivate a strong basketball identity for Nanyang Basketball CCA.
3) Based on the camp objectives, your child will be undergoing a program of basketball training as well as take part in a varied list of activities.
We do not wish to focus only on Basketball but also to provide a holistic platform for your child to garner a set of skills and values. At the camp they can expect Basketball Trainings, a Basketball Friendly Match, a Nature Trail, play Team Games, Learn about Olympic Values, a Barbeque Dinner and more.
4) Please note that the camp is not compulsory.
However we hope that ALL BASKETBALL CCA members can take part and join in the fun and games. We are aware that some of the pupils have signed up for courses during the school holidays. Your child may take leave during the camp provided notice has been given and a registered adult is picking your child up. Kindly direct your child to report to the teacher-in-charge before leaving and the moment he or she is back. Please fill up the form attached if you intend to withdraw your child midway through the camp.
5) Planning and executing a camp can be a challenging task for teachers.
We hope that some parents can volunteer to help us at this camp. We will need 4 parent volunteers (PVs) on Monday, 3rd June and Tuesday, 4th June. Parent Volunteers will be allocated to groups to help in their tasks and at meal times. During trainings and team activities, our PVs can take a breather and proceed to do their own work or rest in the comfort of the office. We can also arrange a guest ID to allow you to use the school Wi-Fi network. Please note that PVs are not allowed to stay overnight. Kindly complete the form below if you can volunteer your time and would like to join in the fun.
6) There’s a barbeque on the second night and you are invited!
We hope to build the CCA into an inclusive community and we would like to hold a barbeque session on the second night – Tuesday, 4th June. Basketball CCA members can invite their parents and siblings down for a good time. We will hold some party games for everybody along with some prizes to give away. Any sponsors for food, drinks, prizes or cash will be deeply appreciated and acknowledged. Do note that camp participants will stay for the night after their family members have left.
If you have any queries or feedback, feel free to email me at eugene_ng_ming_teck@nyps.edu.sg

Suspension of Basketball Training from 22 April to 20 May
Dear Parents and Nanyang Basketballers,
Basketball Training has been suspended till 20 May.
Our next Basketball Training will commence again on Thursday, 23rd May for the Devt Team and Girls Team; and on Friday, 24th May for the Seed Team.
Do ask you child to continue practicing ball drills at home. He or she does not necessarily need a coach or the court to improve in ball skills. All they need to do is practice, practice and practice.
Training will continue this Saturday, 5th May, for the Development Team from 0730-0930.
Take note that training will be held at Toh Tuck Campus this Saturday.
This training is not compulsory as we are aware that some of the students require more time for revision.
However we hope that you can continue to bring your child down for training. It is a form of exercise which can help your child relieve stress. We also wish to open this Saturday's training for the Girls Team as they are missing the mid-week training.
Warmest Regards,
Mr Eugene Ng

For Nanyang Girls Team, training on Thursday is compulsory. We hope you will come on Fridays for additional practice especially with your basic ball handling skills.
In Nanyang we have a basketball philosophy based on the human fist. When we play, we play well and we play hard. Like a fist. There are five core playing skills which we hope to inculcate in every Nanyang Basketballer. We hope they carry these skills with them as they grow to be better players and students.
"A basketball team is like the 5 fingers on your hand.
If you can get them all together, you have a fist.
That's how I want you to play"

Basketball camp
This morning, 38 kids from CCA group and school team ranging from P1-P5 reported at 7.30am. They were split into 4 groups namely Miami Heats, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics.
From 8-10am, they were led by coach Ong in doing warmups and drills. After which they had simple tea break of milo and cake. At 10.30am, it was ice breaking games and getting to know one another.
At 12, it was time to cook their own lunch. Before that, they were briefed by Mr Eugene on fire safety regarding usage of mess tins and stoves. He did a cooking demo of instant noodles with veggies, egg and sausages. Then the kids went to their various groups to set up the cooking area at the library garden. The older P5 boys and girls took over the cooking job and served the younger ones before finally tucking in to their own cooked meal. Can see that they are very pleased and deserved a pat on their backs for a job well done. The younger ones then helped out on scouring the mess tins and cleaning up the place.
After lunch, it was to watch videos of great NBA players to analyse their game and share what they can learn from them.
From 3.30-5.30pm, it was time to hit the basketball court for mini games. While the younger group played mini games, the older boys played 3 on 3. After a short debrief, the kids broke camp and headed home. Hopefully though tired but inspired to play more basketball. Hope the kids have forged new bonds and may the fellowship continues when they see one another back in school after this 1 week term break.
