The Nanyang Primary Girls Junior Div team played against Choa Chu Kang Primary yesterday.
Our girls lost the match 86 - 3.
The Choa Chu Kang team showed why they are the current powerhouse in this sport with their deft moves, slick passing and accurate shooting. For our girls it was an experience to learn from the best as they embark on their first tentative steps into the competition. With time and more training, the teachers are confident our girls can measure up to the best one day.
For now we take our defeats with grace and to learn from each game.

Another few dribbles and another pass to the player nearer to the basket.

Girls team suffers a defeat from Lian Hua Pri
Though the girls were defeated at the court by Lian Hua Pri: 8-35, hope they will continue to keep their spirits high and persevere. One day, they will thrash the other teams and get a taste of victory. 再接再厉!
Victory to our boys' team
Our boys team did the school proud by winning their first match today against Jurong Pri: 58-14. Within a minute into the first quarter, Rhys put in the first goal earning us 2 points in the lead. Our boys played well in the first quarter ending with score 24-2. The scores at 2nd and 3rd quarter were 36-4 and 44-6 respectively. The boys had many near misses at the hoop else the game could have ended with a score point of at least 70. But still a very good start to the west zone tournament. Looking forward to their next game against Henry Park Pri on 4 Feb.
West zone basketball tournament starts today
Today, both the boys and girls team will play their first game of the west zone tournament at Jurong Primary School. The boys' match starts at 2pm against Jurong Pri whereas the girls' is at 3pm against Lian Hua Pri. This is the day when our teams will get to display their ball skills and fighting spirit on court. Jiayou!

Watching the Singapore Slingers
3 of the NYPS basketball boys managed to watch the Singapore Slingers in action this afternoon at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
It was a match against Chang Thailand Slammers. Jeffers from the Slingers got the ball from the jumpstart and shortly after scored the first 2 point of the match. The match started slowly with the first quarter ending 10-8 with Slingers leading.
The 1st half ended 35-23 with Slingers winning. The Thai Slammers had a strong comeback for the 3rd quarter. The 3rd quarter nearly ended with 40-37 but fortunately at the last 10 seconds Wei Long from the Slingers scored a 3 pointer and ended the 3rd quarter 43-37.
Finally the match ended 56-50, Slingers won! It was a match with many swift movements, good steals and inceptions. The boys and parents watching the match enjoyed themselves thoroughly. It will be a match the boys will remember for a while.
"It was an exciting match especially when all the players used those tricks and could keep cool-headed, even nearing the end of every quarter. I have learnt to cut off my opponents' imaginary line so that they cannot score. - Kang Zhe"
