Friendly match with Bukit Panjang Primary School-part1

The boys are more prepared this time round for the match against Bukit Panjang Primary School. They played hard defending to prevent the opponent from scoring while at the same time fiercely attacking to score many goals. Although this match was missing some key players, the boys fought hard and tough to ensure they win despite it being only a friendly match. Love the boys' spirit and working together as a team. Keep up the good effort and spirit!

Singapore Slingers 2013 ASEAN basketball League Schedule

The schedule for the 2013 ASEAN Basketball League is out. Our boys can catch the Singapore Slingers live in action at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Singapore Slingers Adds 3 New Local Players

Singapore Slingers has signed up 3 new Singaporean players: Damien Goh Teck Beng, Wu Qingde and Mitchell Fredrick Folkoff. They range in age from 20-27 years.

Thought the boys might be encouraged to know that they too one day can become outstanding players and join the league.

Training on 14 dec 2012

As it was drizzling, the boys have to train at the meeting point instead. After the usual drills, Coach Ong focused on teaching them how to mark their zones. The boys have to know their positions well and to move within their zones putting up a strong defense. Coach Ong was heartened by boys' hard work. His only lament was the boys started too late in their training. He expressed that if he had gotten them a year earlier, the boys would have gained much more experience and ready to take on the other teams. Continue to train hard, boys! We are here to support you all the way. Jiayou!!!

Training session - warm up and stretching exercises

Following Mr Ng's explanation, the team performed the following stretching exercises. Players are reminded to do each set diligently as warm up to any game.

Intensive Training during Nov-Dec school holidays

The basketball tournament for the West Zone is scheduled to start on 14 Jan 2013 and to last till March. This will be the first tournament our boys will play against the west zone schools. They will face up against strong opponents like Choa Chu Kang Primary and Kranji Primary. As such, they have to train hard during this school holiday to build up their strength and stamina as well as learn tactics that they can use on the court.

Today's session was taken by Mr Eugene Ng. He took the opportunity to reinforce with the boys and the girls the importance of working together as a team, sharing with them the 5 must haves in a player:

(1) Stamina
(2) Movement
(3) Ball skills
(4) Tactics and
(5) Spirit

These 5 requisites are liken to the 5 fingers which are then clenched together to form a tight fist, to fight hard in the court. Thank you, Mr Ng for the analogy. Believe the boys will remember it well.

Next, Mr Ng explained to the team the purpose of each stretching exercise, how it develops and warms up different muscle groups and also the different drills to improve their movement and ball skills.
